Online Voter Registration for Ohio begins in 2017

On June 13, 2016, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed online voter registration into law.

Click here for the press release from Jon Husted, Ohio Secretary of State.  The law will go into effect in 2017.

Ohio VIP is a supporter of the online voter registration system because it will require all of the following for an application to be accepted:

  • A valid Ohio Drivers License or State ID
  • A valid Social Security Number
  • A match of ID and Social Security Number with Name, Address, Date of Birth.

Verification of US Citizenship per the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, this program also contains many security safeguards including the batching and review of all applications prior to adding voters to the voter rolls.

Just for clarification, this is NOT online voting.  Ohio VIP is opposed to online voting.
