General – FAQs

Why should I sign up with Ohio VIP?

If you want to help with research, poll workers or observers, you can register with us to receive emails about online and in person trainings. We will also give your name to your county coordinator who will assist with your placement at the polls on election day.

How can I get more involved and take a leadership role?

County Coordinators serve as the recruiter for volunteers for the Ohio VIP project. They go out in their communities and cheerlead for the project. Working with them are two Liaisons to the Board of Elections. The Poll Worker Liaison works with the county BOE to place poll workers in precincts for the election.

The last role but very important is the Research Leader. In addition to doing the actual data research, the Research Leader helps other researchers in his/her county with their research and any questions and issues that may arise. This person generally has a little better computer skills than the average person. He/she is responsible for verifying and submitting challenges to local Board of Elections as well as attending the Board of Elections meetings to discuss the challenges.

I am frustrated with what is going on in Ohio and the nation. How is this project going to impact the current situation?

We believe that any improvement in the implementation of Ohio’s current election laws will make a difference in 2013 and beyond. Recruiting and educating competent poll workers will help to ensure that our polling locations will run smoothly and without bias on election day. Data research is a long term project that will continue year round. Our goal is to clean up the voter records removing deceased and duplicate voters as well as making instances of double voting a thing of the past.
